drop rate of a Tome ? - Guild Wars Forums

is it like the chance of a gold item? I ask because how could someone have a thousand tomes like the guy stated in my bot thread and said he don't' bot ?
I farm for a hour and no tomes do they drop on the first expansion? will a monster level 10 drop a tome ? or only 20+?

They drop in Hard Mode. Repeated farming of a large number of monsters in HM (vaettir, raptors) yields masses of tomes.

really but only a 20+ level monster? I tried Elona's Reach and try sand drakes but I haven't gotten 1 tome? they are level 21 if I rember correct in hard mode they are like 26.

Tomes only drop in hardmode

its very possible for someone who can farm for hours straight and not get bored to get 1000 tomes...but the average farmer doesnt have that many....anyways tome drop rates are low if you are just gonna go out and vanquish but if you are farming the same thing over and over and over you are gonna get quite a few tomes...

odd you say that I farmed hard mode for an hour no tomes on sand drake. It must be the level of the monster it's the only thing I can figure out.

They dont drop much imo... you used to get tons of tomes b4 they nerfed splinter weapon on that margonite rit/barrage farm. Other then on that farm I have hardly gotten any tomes to drop on normal HM farming(just bad luck maybe).

At one point i had over 600 mes and 500 sin tomes ... vatteir and raptors. Drakes hydras scarabs and on and on will not yield as many because they are not en masse in one location.

raptor cave and keg farmin = MASSIVE NUMBERS of baddies in one spot.

keg run is what? 54 vatteir? X 50 runs in an afternoon? thats roughly 2500 sooooo im not sure what the drop rate is but im thinkin a few weeks equals a whole buttload of tomes.

Also, just because someone has a large number of tomes doesn't mean they farmed them all. They could be selling for the entire guild, they could have purchased them for a very low price and are reselling. Yet, they could be solo farming them in HM. Sin tomes from Rata Sum, Warrior tomes in old ascalon and Mesmer tomes from Rata Sum. there are other places that are easy to farm in HM.

Raptor farming kills 30 monsters every 2 minutes.
Vaetar's Farming used to be even faster (54 monsters in 2 minutes). In an hour, you could easily kill over 1500 monsters. In that time, you'd get a few tomes.
Your sand drake farm is just slow. You probably only kill 3-4 monsters at a time. Farming isn't about level, as much as its about quantity.

Also, you may not be farming in HM.

Yes farming in HM will get you tons of tomes. Just depends how much you farm and for how long you do it.

Another way, is he could of bought those tomes as well. I see people buying tomes in bulk all the time. I know when I need tomes, I buy several at a time for extra measure so when I make new toons, I have plenty of tomes to get them the skills they need right from the get-go.

Since the Z quests came along, I've been saving my Tomes (I used to sell them).In that relatively short amount of time I've gotten 110 (plus a couple I used). The only one I'm missing is Elite Paragon. When I was raptor farming, I used to get lots of Assassin tomes, and a Guildie has at least 1 stack of Assassins,
So, yeah, it's very possible to have 1000 Tomes. It's not even a big deal.
